1989 Johnson 15HP (J15ECEC) Carburetor

The top plastic cover (part #334050) on my carburetor has a crack in it. I found one but it is over $70.00. Can a different carburetor that doesn't use plastic be substituted?

I am searching for a used one but no luck to date.

Those 74-92 15hp carbs are like gold, since they are highly sought after by 9.9 owners.
The older all metal carbs will work, but won't be as efficient on fuel and they're pricey.

Your best bet is to bite the bullet for $70, since a used 15hp carb will cost at least that. I have sold them for upwards of $150.

I believe the 9.9hp's of that vintage uses the same top cover(doublecheck), so that would be an option if you've got the patience to hunt one down.
