1954 Evinrude 7.5 HP carburetor float

Hello...

I am rebuilding the carburetor for this motor and can't find a float. The old one is intact but looks kind of varnished up...appears to be cork. Are there other years/hp that would be compatible? Thanks.

Vic

The float is cork and is coated with varnish as a sealant. If it looks reddish/brown don't use ethanol blended fuel as it will dissolve the varnish or better yet replace it. If it looks yellowish it should be ethanol safe. Either can be resealed using SuperGlue or even fuel tank sealant but it is easier and quicker to replace them.

i have heard many say POR 15 to seal float if its new or has been made from nitrophil.think spelled right.any way i heard it works well on new floats.but can anyone tell me the exact name of the POR that is used.i looked it up and they have clear, red, and tank sealer etc.i would so be in your debt if someone could tell me the exact kind.Thank you.
