    Default 1955 3 hp Johnson Sea Horse JW-11

    Hi,
    I have an oil leak from the lower unit. It has NEVER been opened. I suspect it needs a new bearing housing seal. Any other thoughts of what it could be or is there anything I should replace while I am in there? Any tricks to installing or assembly?

    You are sure it is gear oil leaking out and not just unbunt oil from the fuel.

    Is there any water in the oil?

    If you go there to do the seals you might as well do them all #9 #22 and #19 and the washer(s) on the oil fill screw(s)

    Also overhaul the water pump while you have it accessible.

    Thanks for the reply. I am sure it is a leak. I will go ahead and replace those seals and pump.
