Ring gear

I have a 1987 WellCraft St Tropez with V-Drives.
I have a couple of broken teeth on the flywheel. Can I just change the the ring gear or do I need a new flywheel? If so how does the ring gear attach to the flywheel?

Yes..... a new ring gear can be ordered through most any parts house....
Steer clear of any non-US made!

The fit is a heat/shrink fit.

Some of the better shops will use a turn table to rotate the flywheel as the ring gear is heated and tapped into position...... some will use an oven to heat the ring gear!
The first scenario is my preference.

(do not over-heat if Oxi-Acet is used!)

Once in place and cooled, you are done!

.

BTW, you'll find two flywheel diameters used on the SBC. Not sure which engine you have, but it will be one of two if SBC....... 153 tooth or 168 tooth!
If other than SBC, be sure to match the tooth count!

And I did not mention that you simply drive the old ring gear off. You can do this cold, or you can heat it some!
