1971 9.9 HP Johnson, Leaded Gas?

Just be sure to keep the alcohol fuel away from it. Use non-oxy fuel only. New 2 cycle oils allow a 40 or 50 to 1 mix. A high quality synthetic like Amsoil will allow 64:1 or 2 oz. per gallon. I have run Amsoil since 1977 in all our resort and personal outboards, snowmobiles and chain saws without a single failure. Exhaust systems and combustion chambers stay very clean and plugs will last until the reach arm deteriorates away. Alcohol enriched fuel will in time destroy any part that contains rubber. Be carefull of certain additives as well. Good luck, the "stubby" is quite possibly the finest engineered outboard ever.

Thanks for the help. I rebuilt the carb, gassed it up and it started on the first pull...amazing.
I am having an issue getting it to idle down properly. It wants to idle fast and when I adjust the idle down it doesn''t want to stay running. I'm thinking maybe the timing is off. Does that make sense? How do I check/adjust?
