"I have an 84 sea ray with a omc 800 stern drive that is leaking fluids from the last time in water last season. I want to change the seals in the upper, intermediate and lower unit but I'm concerned I may not have the proper tools. The seloc manual I've read indicates that special tools are needed and clearances / tolerance checked while reinstalling the units. Is this true and if so how difficult is it to locate the tools? Would it be a better option to have a mechanic change the seals?"

"i did it with everyday tools and if all you do is change the seals then put it back EXACTLY the way you took it apart.

I made up a pair of pliers out of the longest long nose pliers i could find, and ground down the tips to make a sort of ring pliers i think they called it a taurang pliers.

I also made up puller extensions for a puller that i had from sears.

Oh the shims treat them like gold, don't bend them.

Follow the manual what sort of manual you have?"
