Changing water pump kit on a 1978 johnson 70 hp

"first time at doing this, are there any tricks to removing the lower leg to access impellor? I have removed the four bolts just above te sump plug, and cant get anywhere after that..... hard being a novice"
 
Under the cav plate 11/16 and

Under the cav plate 11/16 and a 1/2inch to undo under trim tab.

Under the lower carby (accessed from left hand side) is the shift rod screw to undo and remove.
 
"Best to use a 1/4 drive exten

"Best to use a 1/4 drive extension with a 3/8" uiversal flex socket to loosen that 3/8" shift shoulder bolt.

A finger grab type mechanics tool makes the removal and installation of the shift bolt fairly easy.
