Yamaha 15hp 2stroke 2003 15 hp fuel mixture

hi i have just bought a yamaha 2003 15hp 2stroke
outboard the mix on the engine says 100/1 but a friend has said that it runs ok on 50/1 mix is this the case or will i have to stick to manufacturers recommended mix
 
50/1 gives you more insurance

50/1 gives you more insurance your engine wont tie up. Oil is cheap compared to a wasted upper half.
