    CRUSING UP AND DOWN IN INTRA COASTAL SO FLA. BUT
    MANUAL STATES , ADJUST VALVES AT FIRST 20 HRS. I
    DIDNT WANT TO DO THIS BEACUSE RUNS FINE AND I DONT
    WANT TO MONKEY WITH THE VALVES MYSELF !!!! TALKED
    TO MECHANIC'S AND ALL WANT APROX. $100.00 HR FOR
    THE JOB..... I WOULD LIKE TO USE IT FOR SAY TWO
    YEARS AT MOST BEFORE REPAIR SHOP PARTY !! THANKS FOR ANY REPLIES !!!!!!!"

    Default Its more of a check valve adju

    Its more of a check valve adjustment at 20 hours than a adjust valves. The idea being to catch a problem before it can cause damage. One out of a thousand might need to be adjusted. Are you that one?

    "THANKS T GRU FOR REPLYING SO I HAVE WAITIED ALMOST A YEAR TO START THINKING ABOUT HAVING VALVE COVER PULLED 100.00 SHOP PARTY I KNOW THAT. IS THERE ANOTHER WAY TO KNOW ? IS THIS A COMMON THING TO PAY A SHOP WITH A NEW MOTOR. I HATE TO THINK, BUT WHAT COULD GO WRONG DOWN THE ROAD ? I WOULD LIKE TO ALEAST WAIT TWO YEARS SAY, AND HAVE IMPELLER THEROSTAT AND VALVES CHECKED THEN. NEXT MOTOR WILL BE A 2 STOKE LIKE MY OLD ESKA MOTOR 7.5 GAMEFISHER ...RAN FOREVER IN SALTWATER AND I RARLEY EVER DID ANYTHING TO IT SOLD IT STILL RUNNING WERE TALKING 1980'S PLEASE TELL ME MORE ALSO I HAVE THINGS TO OFFER . I FOUND THAT TOHATSU HAD THE PLUG WIRE CRIMPED TO HARD ON CLAMP AND RUBBED AGAINST CLAMP BOLT UNTIL MADE A HOLE IN WIRE SHEATH !!!! I NOTICED IN TIME AND REARANGED CLAMP !!! MORE TO FOLLOW......."

    I don't know of anyone who bothers to check valves on little engines. Should they? Yes. It's just economically feasible to pay someone to do it on that size engine. Could something go wrong down the road? Of course. Likely? No. Two-stroke engine haven't been available for years so you are stuck with four-stroke technology.
