I am new to Mercury motors and had a few questions. First what is the redline for this motor? The tach on the boat I think is off because it'll show it idling at 2grand and it dosen't sound like it at all. Another thing is when you get her wound up pretty good is seems like sometimes it'll lose bite in the water or something is slipping if possible. The motor was supposedly rebuilt last year and it runs great otherwise and is real clean. Is there a way to test the clutch on it out of the water? I just want to get all the bugs worked out on it before I head too far off shore. Thanks!"

That slip you feel is probably air bubbles in the water. Very common complaint

"That motor should run 4750-5250 at WOT. Look on the back of the tach and make sure the pointer is pointing to 6P. You might want to check and make sure your hub isn't slipping. Put adjacent marks on the inner and outer hub then try it again. After it sounds like it is slipping again, check the marks and see if they are still lined up."
