"I have been working on this motor and dont know much about it, was traded to me. But I got it running, it has water coming out the back, but after it runs a little while it starts to get to hot on head. I checked the waterpump impeller, It was old but still fair shape. It seems like the longet it runs the less water comes out the back of it. I guess I will put new water pump and see what happens. Anyone got any ideas what could be problem."

What is too hot on the head?

What is too hot on the head? If you can hold your hand on the side of the motor while it is running then it is not bad. No thermostat on this motor. As jwbmarine said replace the impeller and all parts there especially the plate that the impeller rides on. Could be something lodged in the passages of the head that restricts the flow by expanding as the motor heats up. It is amazing the kinds of insects that like to make their home inside an old outboard.
