Yamaha F 9.9 CMH 4stroke 1998 manual very hard to start due to high compression. You have to stand up and use both hands to pull it. Is there any way to reduce compression when starting?

sure you've got it in neutral?

I've got a hard starting 9.9 also, but after it finally gets going (15-20 pulls), it purrs like a kitten. For the rest of the day, I can pull once, and voila!

I pump that damned ball till it's rock hard, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. It's just gonna be ornery!
