I am rebuilding a 1963 family built 21' Utility wood boat. It had the original motor in it which i would like help identifying. I suspect that it is an Interceptor becasue there are Interceptor parts all over it. When we pulled the motor out 5 yrs ago we found out that it had been frozen and cracked the block. We had it rebuilt by a friend that is an old gear head type. He replaced the block with the same block. He found it in an old truck. In retrospect i wish i would have known about your discussion group here before doing that. I hope that was the correct thing to do. ?????
My question is now this; what motor is it? He told me that it was a 390 block that he replaced it with. Does that mean that it was origanly a 285 HP Interceptor? The reason i want to know is just that, i want to know and i would like to put the correct decals on it. It did not have any when we pulled it.
I have attached a photo of the way we pulled the motor out if that helps.
