"Does anyone know the compression pressure for the 41a I think the 41b is 355psi.Is there a cold start warm up devise on the top of the fuel pump, two wires go into this housing. When the engines warm up the smoke is less. Thank you"

"Hello Brian,

Volvo Manual

"Hello Brian,

Volvo Manual TAMD 41 A tells nothing about regular compression pressure. Only that it should not be lower than 25 kp/cm2 at startermotors rotation which is 240 rpm

"Hello Brian,

"Hello Brian,

I got the following guidelines from the Skipper of a 13 year old Seasport 26' (called the Morning Glory) based in Homer Alaska;

375 PSI or more is excellent
350 PSI is good
300 PSI is fair
250 PSI is poor

When I found evidence of high crankcase pressure on my AD41P at 1350 Hrs with reduced top-end power/RPM's and elevated fuel consumption, I had a compression and leakdown test performed on the engine and this is what the VP mechanic found:

Cyl. 1, 3, 5, 6 were all between 350-360 PSI
Cyl. 2 was 270 PSI (and failed leakdown test)
Cyl. 4 was 320 PSI (and failed leakdown test)

I don't know the root source of this compression rating scheme I showed you above, but it seems adequate as a rough diagnosis for problems based on my experience with this engine so far.

/DoH"
