" The digital readout on my 2001 Yamaha 115hp four stroke is inconsistent. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, and I suspect the accuracy when it does work. Is there a quick way to tell what's wrong or is it dealer city? "

" I had a similar problem -- have you checked your water intake? Its a tiny---really tiny hole on the front of the lower unit or lower part of the shaft. I didn't even realize I was looking at mine until I got under the boat. They tend to get clogged with dirt, mud, etc. I used a very small drill bit and gently spun it with my fingers into that hole, pulling out a lot dirt until I could feel the bit hitting metal (gently). Next time on the water, it worked 100% and has since. "
