Is there any other markings on

Is there any other markings on a the block of an engine or something to tell the model years. The transom plate says 2001 150 cxl but the emissions sticker on the engine says 1999 so im having a little trouble figuring out exactly what year the engine is.

Thanks

"Hello again - Merc doesn't encode the year into their production numbers (serials) or on anything else on the motors.

The emissions sticker is a good indicator that the powerhead was produced in 1999.

My guess would be that it left the dealer in 2001 refit with the counter rotating 25" lower as a brand new 2001 model (that's the way Merc works it - doesn't matter when it was built, it's "current year" when it's sold and the warranty starts from there).

There should be a welsh plug (silver disk about the size of a quarter) on the powerhead itself (might be kinda hidden).

It will have the production number stamped in it - should be a 0Gxxxxx or 0Txxxxx (the zero at the start may be omitted).

If you can find it, post it up and the production lists can be checked to confirm the year of the powerhead production...

In a given series (84 thru 94, 95 thru 05 etc) Merc builds all the motors mechanically identical so the exact year is unimportant as far a parts are concerned..."
