How do you adjust the idle on a mercury 50 hp

"My mercury is running really high, out of water i am idleing about 1900 rpm's i know i should be around 1000 to 1300 out of water. I checked the carbs all butterflys (think thats what there called) are shut when in idle but i am still idleing high? what can i also adjust? i mess with the throttle cable and i cant move it any more, any sugestions?"

It would help to know what year the motor is. Most motors that setting is done thru a procedure called link & sync. It is important that you have a manual and do it in the exact steps given to have a properly running motor.
