"Hi guys,
I am wondering if some early (60's era) 534 Seamaster marine engines were built as reverse rotation motors, or did they use a drive gear reversing setup? I am looking to buy a turbo version and need a ccw (standard rotation). The seller is a long way away, and doesnt know for sure what the rotation is. Is there any way he can check without tearing into the motor?
Thanks!

"Easy way is to take off the starter and see which way it turns when you apply a battery to it. Also you can tell by which way the starter drive clutch rachets. Also, most reverse rotation starters have four thru-bolt holes in the brush plate. This is because you have to rotate the brushes 90 degrees to reverse the rotation."

It it's a reverse rotation engine, the v-belts will be 2 sided and pass under the water pump for opposite rotation. For standard rotation, the v-belts will pass over the top of the water pump. (Oftentimes seamaster still uses the same 2 sided v belt.
