"I recently purchased a 1991 18' Bayliner Capri with a 1991 Force 90 HP outboard motor. The engine runs good. I noticed that one of the four posts on the rectifier doesn't have a wire attached to it. This post is labeled with a "-" symbol. According to my manual, this post is a ground. The manual seems to indicate that a wire should be attached but it doesn't list a color for the wire. It looks like the plastic around the post has melted. Should there be a wire connecting this post to a ground? If so, what should I ground the wire to?

Thanks"

"John,

If the plactic is melted, just buy a new rectifier and have done with it. You can ground the negative terminal to any engine ground.
