"Hi,

Just wondering what is a good way to clean an exhaust manifold. It's off of a 2 cyl diesel, MD6A.

Called my auto mechanic and he mentioned acid baths, and glass bead chamber (basically sand-blasting).

He said acid bath may eat through causing a small leak.

The sand blasting method, won't it be hard to get inside the chambers with that?

Thanks,

"I'd suggest a dip in the tank at an auto machine shop. If there's any holes, a pressure test will find them.

Replacement is the Answer to your Question......

All that Scale,+ Junk,.. USED to be Cast Iron,....
Removing the Junk leaves you with Very Thin casting walls.......
Which means that Rot Thru is the next step in it's progression......
In other words,.....
It's Not really buying you Any time,+ you Will be Buying a New Motor..........
So,.......
Your Choices are Either a New Manifold Now,.... or a New Motor later........"

"Actually, it turned out that my manifold didn't have that much crud on it.

I know what you are saying... if the walls get too thin, you end up worse off.

But I took FastJeff's advise and found a machine shop (think the name was mancini's off rt 40 west, baltimore beltway). Twenty bucks. They don't follow directions so well though. They didn't take off my temperature sensor and messed it up. I should have taken it off myself.
