" i have a 1.5 hp johnson which gives a good blue spark but when i try to adjust the engine speed it gives me a shock. i am running it dry at the bench and it will only run for 5 secs or so. i have changed the h.t.lead and taped the coil but its just the same. would a new coil cure this or have i missed something.
also the mixture screw, is 1.5 turns out about right? can i get an exploded view on the net? "

If you run the motor dry you will ruin the water pump.Have the coil tested at a dealer.

" I would make sure the little rubber boot that goes around the outlet on the coil is present and not crumpled over. This insulates the junction between the coil and spark plug wire. I had a motor that used the same magneto that would bite me on the throttle - found it was arcing from the coil to the mag plate and that the insulating boot had been mushed over when the coil was installed. I put a new boot on, installed it properly and I don't get bit anymore...
