It's time to put it away for the winter.
I live in CT. What are the procedures for storing an outboard for the winter. Johnson 76 25 hp.

Also I have some rust build up on the choke plate
What is the best way to remove it.

Thanks

"Flush by running in fresh water if it has been used on salt water.

Do the full service schedule as described in the manual.

Change the gearcase oil. (Now's the time to investigate if there is any sign of water ingress (milky oil)

Run the engine in a tank (or can you use muffs on that one?) and inject fogging oil as instructed on the can. (Or spray TCW oil into the carb air intake using a trigger spray bottle while running at a fast idle).
Stop it while smoking copiously.

A good idea to drain the fuel remaining in the carb.

Finally make sure all water drains from the exhaust housing and store the engine upright with something underneath to catch the oil that will drain from the exhaust

During the winter is the time to consider changing the water pump impeller if not done recently or if there are any doubts about the cooling.

You can remove the choke plate I think, but dont drop the screws into the engine! I'd scrape the rust off and lightly oil it I think."
