Evinrude Exhust housing

"I have a 1992 Evinrude 120 VE120TLEAD
that's overheating.
I have low water flow to the engine.
I have the gearcase off
The water pump is good.
So I am trying to get the exhust housing off
the motor.
So I can check the water pipe to powerhead
The workshop manual does not cover it.
I have remove all the top bolts 6 3/8, 4 1/4 and 1 nut plus the 4 lower mounting bolts.

But it will not come free.

1 Is the just stuck on the megphone.

2 Does it come off with out pulling the power head .

3 How do you get it come off.

I do hope you guys can help me.

Thanks"

THANK jwbmarine
I all ready

THANK jwbmarine
I all ready have and it does not help.
Thats why I hoped some one here had stripped and rebuilt this engine.

At $950 for a new one I don't want to break it.

"ok....pull the pwr hd,and hoo

"ok....pull the pwr hd,and hook a garden hose to water tube,..that may not blow out a piece of old impeller stuck in it tho.."

"OK guys, Up Date.

"OK guys, Up Date.

jwbmarine I went back and had a second look at
shop.evinrude.com did not see anything more but
I pulled the powerhead.
There are two bolts under the the powerhead at the front that hold the exhust housing.
I have it all apart now, but did not find any problem that I could say was the cause of the overheating or poor water flow.
I removed the heads and still did not find anything wrong.
I have found a small bleed hole drill in the tuning megaphone water housing.
That is where the water came from when I put the hose to the water pipe.
I don't know if it should be there.
The gasket was blown at the front of the exhust port on the top of the megaphone.
I don't know if this would cause the problems I have been having.
This powerhead has always had number one cylinder running leaner and hotter than the other three the plug was light gray the others black.
But the motor did not overheat, Left bank as seen from the back would be 175 to 185 and the right bank would be 160 to 170.

Till last week then both went over 200F and shutting the engine down in to slow mode.
I have new temp guages on both heads.

I had checked the thermostats and both open at 155F/160F.
I have had the carbs off and cleaned/check the float hight three times.

Looks like I am going to pull the carbs and reed boxes check the reeds and replace the gaskets.
Also a full new water pump.

There was very litte carbon in the heads or on the piston most was soft and wiped off.
It was all nice and oily in there.
I use Pennzoil TC-W3 100% Synthetic 2-Cycle Outboard Oil.

This engine is in very good condition.
So I would hate to blow this one.

Any thoughts OR knowledge would be very helpful"

Most likely it is the blown ga

Most likely it is the blown gasket as exhaust pressure will over come water pressure and the engine will overheat
