I just purched a small Fg boat

I just purched a small Fg boat with a "85" 35 hp merc. Owner told me it over heated so I started taking the lower unit off to check the water pump housing and impeller. The drive shaft seems to be frozen in the power head. Any one have any ideas?

"That's trouble. Sometimes you have to cut the drive shaft off to get the power head off, then heat the crank with a torch to get the remains out.

Try this: Suspend the motor upside down by the LU and shoot penetrating oil in. You'll need to drill a hole or two in the tower near the power head/ drive shaft connection. Use a 5/16 drill bit and tap the hole (later) for an 1/8 " pipe plug.
