"Hi men, I am tearing my 1987, 350 CID Mercruiser apart. The engine is still in the boat. How do I get the bottom bolt out of the starter (it connects the starter to the block). Is there a secreat way or do I need a special wrench? I can't see lifting the entire engine out of the boat to get the starter out! The reason being the engine will not crank over. I put a new battery in and it still won't crank. The wires show 12.7 volts on red to ground and 3.0 volts on the other side of the solinoid. Need help, Bob"

Replace the solenoid if you c

Replace the solenoid if you can't get the starter off. I use a ratchet type Craftsman wrench. Tie a strap around the starter and snug it first so it hangs when you get the bolt out.

"it is a 9/16" hex and you need a deep dish socket, Snap on is preffered due to thinner socket wall and 3/8 drive, a short 3" extension and a lot of paitents!!!"
