"I have a 1998 5.OL EFI AlphaOne O/D. Ever since having an out of gas situation, the engine backfires and runs rough when I throttle down. Giving it gas, and coming up to speed cures the problem. I changed the cap and plugs and used EZORB, it still backfires."

Default "Old, leaking plug wires? If

"Old, leaking plug wires? If they are touching or crossed they can jump to and from. Dirty or worn injectors? Change fuel filters? You can clean the injectors quickly w/a hot injector cleaner/fuel mix.

Mix a pint of SeaFoam to a gallon of fresh fuel in a small appropriate fuel can. Connect the siphon end of the boat's fuel line to the tank and run the engine at idle until its 1/2 to 3/4 empty; dump the balance into the fuel tank.

Rev the engine to 1500 RPMs a few minutes several times during the cleaning. It will clean the injectors and decarbon the engine. Expect some smoke during the procedure."
Fix minor things (replace wear items for preventative maintenance.) that cause major problems before they break.
