"Its for electrolosis (electrical charge in the water that causes parts to corrode) Its also known as a sacrificial annode. The electrolosis attacks the alloys in the anode instead of attacking parts on your outboard.I would reccomend that you replace it if its missing especially if it has a trim tab incorporated in it. Im just one of those that likes to see it there if the manufacturer put one there, it is there for a reason."
