Gas in crankcase

my daughter has a 60hp bigfoot

my daughter has a 60hp bigfoot four stroke. last time out it started running real rough and quit. after a rest restarted and struggled back in. i checked it out and found she had about 1 1/2 quarts of gas in the crankcase mixed in with the oil. how in the world did the gas get in there??
 
i replaced the fuel pump about

i replaced the fuel pump about 7or 8 months ago. how could it pump into the crankcase??
