i have a 2005 30hp mariner. the battery volt at full throttle slowly goes up to 16.2v. and at idle goes back down to about 13v can any body tell me if this is normal as i have had my radio and depth sounder cook up. i would also think that this would cook my battery up too.any help would be appreciated

"Tony, the charging system on that model simply uses a "rectifier" not a "regulator" - so the 16.2 volts is normal at high rpms.

A rectifier simply converts the AC generated by the charge coils to DC and relies on the battery to regulate the voltage.

With Merc's system it is IMPERATIVE that you use a Marine battery which acts as the regulator/capacitor for the charging system - a normal car battery will not do the job since it is designed to be charged by regulated power..."
