"I just got a new to me 1978 55HP Johnson outboard
Had it on the lake & runs great, shut it down & let my kids go swiming for about an hour & had a real hard time getting it started, after about 15 minutes it started & ran fine, any suggestions??

Also I'm looking at some tilt & trim units on e-bay, what kind- model, will fit, any & all years???"

Did you choke the engine ? not choke ? do you think you flooded it? did you pump the primer bulb when you restarted ? does the choke work?

What type of fuel tank are you using, built in? portable ? 100% clean fresh gas less than 6 weeks old ? has the tank been kept out of the rain ?(reduce chance of getting water in)"

Portable tanks (I have a 1991 25hp evinrude also use the tanks with it)

Is there a different way of starting the 1978 motor than a 1991 motor, I pushed the key in a few times then turn it (started right up this way when I first put it in the lake) but after running it & then letting it set for about an hour it was very hard to start????"
