will a 1989 drive fit my 1985

will a 1989 drive fit my 1985 intermediate housing?

i have a 302sthrcom and the drive has the part number 982461

Because 982461 is a 1983 800 series mechanical stringer drive, not a 1989 as erroneously stated by the wookiemonster.

the '89' thing came from the seller on kijiji. i'm new new new to sterndrive and just tryin to save some dough on the shift cable. the 800 drive complete was $150 cheaper than the damn cable :p"
