once the valve's spring opens fully (compresses) there's no more 'opening' to have. The more gas is pulled thru it, the larger the pressure drop across the valve.
The vacuum gauges are great adds - just make sure they are fluid dampened type. If not, they aren't likely to survive 'til the end of next season."
