Hello all!
Is a little sheen on top of the water normal at start up or a sign of overly rich condition that needs to be adjusted. Just wondering incase it ever happens! 2008 5.7 Crusader classic with Holley carb and electric choke.
Thanks.

"A very minor sheen is possible but still not good.

To avoid that (and keep the oil cleaner) I adjust my chokes on the lean side. The motors require a bit of "fuel injection hand work" on the throttles when cold, but they soon warm up enough to idle on their own.

"I wouldn't call it normal

"I wouldn't call it normal. A minor one that is gone within a minute of startup is probably tolerable and not worth any further effort. If it persists, its only money down the drain."

"Then I would suggest leaning

"Then I would suggest leaning the choke setting a bit. Better on the engines and, with a little practice and experimentation, they'll cold idle just fine.

I may do that this winter. I tried to zip tie the chokes open but mine won't start that way without alot of cranking.
