Which stator for a 40hp force

"Hello everyone,new guy here.

"Hello everyone,new guy here. I have a 1993 40hp Force ob.(ser.# E022698) After testing the stator it seems to have a short. The parts industry offers 2 replacements,a 9amp. & a 16amp.One web site says the 9amp is for rectified systems & the 16amp is for regulated systems but my motor has a reg/rectifier. Has anyone knowledge of this problem? I greatly appreciate any help, thank you."

"Dale, the original stator on your model was most probably a 9 amp. It has been long discontinued.

Here's the application chart from a Merc bulletin from back in 96 or so giving which stator to use. You have to convert over to the newer Red with the retrofit kit.

So regardless, you should replace with the 16 amp stator.
