I have a 1998 Mercruiser 5.7 liter that requires removal of the outdrive every 100 hours to grease the engine/drive coupling sleeve. Can this sleeve be somehow converted to the grease fitting setup on later year Mercruisers that allows greasing of the sleeve without removing the drive?

Thank you.

"Depends on the coupler. Most people put less than that in a year.Besides greasing the splines, you need to remove it to inspect the boot for water or oil and grease the U joints . A mounting gasket is cheap insurance"

Not worth it even for the newe

Not worth it even for the newer models as virtually no one can reach the fitting.

The reason they went to that was they went to nonservicable ujoints so the outdrive did not require removal every year and they changed the shape of the male spline shaft and added a oring to keep the grease on the splines.

Far better to remove the outdrive and check everything out.
