Can any body help. I have recently perchased a 15ft speedboat with a yamaha 75hp outboard. I think its a mid 80's model. The engine runs ok but i can't select forward or reverse gears. The engine hasn't been used for 2 years and has been stood in a garage. I have been told that these engines give this trouble when they haven't been used for some time. The rod that goes through the leg in to the gearbox does move slightly. How can i fix this problem. Is it an easy fix. I am a car machanic so have a bit of an idea what to do but have never owned or worked on an outboard engine.
