88 mercruiser 120 25 fuel pump or carb problem

i have no gas getting to the c

i have no gas getting to the carb. there is gas coming out of the fuel pump but it cant push it up to the carb it seems to pulse out very little. does the the carb use suction to pull up it or does fuel pump push it up? both lines to the pump and to carb are clear. the engine does run if i dump gas into from a can. thanks for time chip

The fuel pump uses suction to take from the tank and pressure to send to the carburetor. If you have a free line to the tank, I'd try another fuel pump, unless you have a fuel pump pressure tester to test the pump output.
