    Default "Thought I had a bad switch, r

    "Thought I had a bad switch, replaced it with a new one and have the same problem where the engine will not turn off at the switch off position. Any thoughts, or has anyone experienced this same problem?"

    "Been there/done that for a few customers.

    The ignition sources the alternator field circuit via this OEM part. When this fails, the alternator is free to now back-feed your ignition so the engine will not shut down with the key switch.
    If you were to get it to shut down, the field then lets go of this circuit.... all appears to be back to normal.


    While it says resistor on it, and if memory serves me, I think this is actually a diode. You can make one with parts from Radio Shack, or order a new OEM.

    Default Same thing happened to me on M

    Same thing happened to me on MD22-P Volvo Penta and was simply the cut-off electrical wire to the fuel pump had come off. When reconnected it worked fine.
