CHANGING A CLOSED SYSTEM TO RAW WATER

I HAVE A AQ120B AND AM THINKIN

I HAVE A AQ120B AND AM THINKING OF MODIFYING THE COOLING SYSTEM SO THAT IT CIRCULATES RAW WATER THROUGH THE BLOCK INSTEAD OF THE COOLANT/EXCHANGER SYSTEM. I HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING WITH IT YET. I WANTED TO GET SOME OPINIONS FROM THIS FORUM. I DO NOT EVER INTEND TO RUN IT IN SALT WATER. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS THINK. THANKS

"Personally, I don't think

"Personally, I don't think it is a good idea even if you intend to run the engine only in fresh water. Raw water is not always clean and you don't want any silt or mud deposits in the block or head. Besides, those engines need to run with the coolant at high temperature (180º-198º) to be efficient and smooth, and I don't think you can achieve that by running raw water through the block and the head.

Cast iron parts + aluminum

Cast iron parts + aluminum parts + non-ethylene glycol coolant = corrosion.
These engines are designed to be using E/G/h2o coolant.... not rive/lake water.
You will eventually have issues that will cost you! This cost will exceed the cost of repairing what ever it is "now" that is wrong with your Heat Exchanger.
