Cracked Steering Helmet can it be welded

"1992 twin 570s with DPs. Crack in the steering helmet probably (but not certainly) originated when the engine was revved fast in reverse coming into a dock. Please tell me if you think it would be OK to weld the helmet, or is it essential to replace it?

My suggestion: bite the bullet and install a new or used one in good condition."

The one good thing is, most all of the Volvo drive components are high enough quality aluminum that a good TIG weld repair could be made..... but I'd have to agree, a replacement would be a better chioce.
Look at a few e-bay sellers, some one may have the helmet that you need."
