"Just bought the motor early 80's model , brought it home and added fuel mixture. Started on 2nd pull, put it in drive, and it ran for a min or so. then died when i tried to speed it up. so i put it back in neutral. and now it wont start at all. has spark, and fuel. any idea's? i did realize i had it to deep in the tank, and the exhaust ports were covered. i removed some water, and still nothing. any help would be great."

"Sounds like some crap came loose from the fuel system and plugged up the main jet. Take a sprayer and put some mixed gas in it and give it a little spray. Then try again. If you get a short start, it's time for carb/fuel pump rebuild. Hardest part about that job is the "finding of the carb". they tended to be well hidden.

There are other things to look for, such as air bubbles from the fuel selector valve (must be closed for remote tank) gas tank vent and your basic ignition. If you would like an early draft of a book for that motor- e-mail me."
