Is there a way I can check the alternater while still on the boat to make sure it is charging the battery. thanks chris

"Measure voltage across batter

"Measure voltage across battery terminals while engine is running. Should be between 13.5 and 14.5 volts. This, of course, assumes a good connection between the battery and the alternator. Some alternator setups do not charge at idle, but by 1200 to 1500 RPM should see correct voltage."

"It was 14.75 at about 1500 rpm. Looks like I'm going to have to fix my gauge, but at least I know it's working. thanks alot. chris"
