Hi guys need a little help on

Hi guys need a little help on 1987 Carver Mariner with a pair of 220hp fwc IB's. First off what degree T-stats should these engines have? Second This boat has always been in fresh water but has Internal cooling with heat exchanger. Lately the port motor has been rising to the 190 mark on temp guage. Wont move much past that but this seems to be warmer than it should be. Any common problems that would cause this?? Thanx for any help. Dan

"1. Buy an infrared temp gun and see what's actually happening.

2.Buy a new set of thermostats and the gaskets to replace what's there now. Usually, the t-stats are 160 to 180 ' F on FWC motors.

3. While you're at it, remove the heat exchager covers and clean the tubes out (IF they are dirty). Add new antifreeze and change the heat exchanger zincs a the same time.

"Could be zinc particulates clogging the oil cooler up front. Could also be time to replace the exhaust elbows, especially if original.

Expect the same issue to show on the starboard engine soon.

There are many threads with lots of details on how to troubleshoot these concerns - suggest using the SEARCH button (up at the top of the page) on the CRUSADER posting to expedite things."
