Clunking noise when going into reverse

I have a 2006 yamaha 150 hp 4-

I have a 2006 yamaha 150 hp 4-stroke that when I go into reverse I have a clunking sound and then as you throttle up it dies. When going foward I have no problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

do you have a ss prop? i have

do you have a ss prop? i have a 300hpdi that does the same thing. its overspinning the prop then catching up with its self.
 
your cables need adjusting or

your cables need adjusting or replacing if they are stretched alot.

the dog clutch is not fully engaging

it is alot easier to change/adjust cables with two peoples as u can adjust the motor end while someone puts the controler in and out of gear.
