Default Your motor has two systems one

Your motor has two systems one is the thermo it controls the water flow and temp through the powerhead second there are two spring loaded vaves one in each cylinder head (where the thermo's are) these bypass the thermo's after about a third throttle and allow cold water to flow through the engine.

The water will exit above the cav plate towards the rear when the thermo's open and once the bypass valves open up the water will exit through the exhaust relief holes under the lower cowl at the rear
