"I have a 1966 Lyman with a Gray 190 hp 327. I have replaced the thermostats, impeller, blew out the cooling lines and she still overheats. I don't think the water flow out the exhaust has as much water as in prevous years. The boat did sit for 5 years for restoration. What am I getting into if I inspect the exhaust jackets? Any other possible things I can check?"

check your intake hose to the water pump if any of the vanes from the impeller broke off they could be blocking the intake of the pump itself. I had this happen many years ago and found this to be the problem.

"There are four different pumps that Gray used on these engines the Jabsco is dual impeller with intrgral blades and cannot be repaired, must be replaced, also the Sherwood (part # 77585). The two other Sherwoods 75954 and 77532 have replaceable blades, Neoprene.

My problem ended up in the heads them self. Improper water flow caused a head gasket to blow. i'm now in the process of having the heads redone.
