"Hi guys,I'm trying to set

"Hi guys,I'm trying to set my total timing but I only seem to be getting 12deg of advance ...spec is 8deg at idle so I only get 20 at 3000 rpm on the water(not on muffs)....I thought maybe srpings were too stiff so I checked on plane while a friend brough to 4000 rpm...no more advence. A few years ago I did try to put electronic ignition in & MAY have put new springs in....I'm thinking that maybe they are actually too soft & using up some of my advance even at idle? Anyone have advance timing curve spec for this setup? I have ordered replacement springs for now & set initial timing at 12 so I can get 24 at 3000 but think I am missing some performance here...
I am using timing tape on ballancer with reg timing light- works nice
Thanks,
Paul"

"definately, on the right trac

"definately, on the right track, yea too loose a spring and you'll have too much at idle, too tight and it wont come in till your up high in the revs.. sounds like they might be light. Timing tape if def a good thing.

The holes on the weights or weight bushings could be worn to.. or even the weight posts. the advance shaft could also be binding not allowing it to advance fully."

"Thanks Brian, I didnt expext

"Thanks Brian, I didnt expext wear since there is only about 500 hrs on this dist...I will double check when the springs come in..I was considering a light brake lube but these may be best left dry?
Other consideration- Anyone know if my ignition module provides any advance- or is it just for shift assist??
Thanks,
Paul"

"Ok, got new springs from Durh

"Ok, got new springs from Durham Marine Ontario- Winston just gave them to me- great guy! Worked perfect, I'm getting full advance again!
Thanks for the feedback!
Paul"
