"My 5HP yamaha 2 stroke (70's/80's!) was in need of a service. I got carried away and ended up stripping down and rebuilding. I cleaned all the ports and tightened down the head etc to the correct torque settings. All seemed well and it started almost immediately ran for about 15 seconds and then cut out. I was unable to restart. I seem to have a spark but there does not seem to be any compression. I did not change the rings, just removed, carefully, and cleaned the grooves out. The rings seemed to have room in the rings i'e. they did not seem to be sticking in the groove. Thebore felt smooth with no signs of scratching.
My 'make it better' has obviously made it worse!Any ideas would be most welcome."
