"My brother recently bought a bass boat that has been running good up until two trips ago. We normally never have to even choke the engine, but recently it won't start unless choked. When it first starts, it smokes (white smoke) quite a bit for maybe a minute or so, then will clear up and not smoke while running. When it's first started you can see maybe some oil of fuel in the water behind the engine. Any ideas on what to do or what this might be? Seems to run well."

"It is multiple things that may cause it if the VRO is connected:
Over pressure in the VRO tank (vent not working) may squeeze extra oil into the fuel system.
Air leak in the fuel suction lines might cause the VRO to over oil.
Another thing that might cause it is that the fuel evaporates from the carbs, leaving mostly oil left. That will at next start give an 'over-oiling' and smoke."

"Excellent explanation Morten, couldnt have put it better myself.

Excess smoke on start ups for two strokes isnt uncommon. However, if theres blue smoke occuring in 4 strokes, then yes, big problem."
