Two questions - What oil do yo

Two questions - What oil do you run and what weight?

1988 454s 1200hrs - Boat in mid-atlantic area summer temps range between 80-100 degrees. Have been running Penzoil Marine Heavy Duty SAE 30 and seems to be good. For these temps should be switching to 40W? Seems borderline based on manual specs.

Also have heard suggestions to stay away from switching to synthetic on motors with high hours if never been used before. Thoughts?
